Pay Someone To Do That

In this post I’m going to share another piece of advice from a wedding planning article I found on jezebel.com. As one of the Pittsburgh wedding DJs from Entertainment Tonite I’m also going to share my own twist on this advice. So read the tip and follow me below the photo for my take.

“Maybe pay someone to do that. Are you supremely artistic and experienced in the ways of crafting? Is your great aunt Martha Stewart? Unless the answer to one of these questions is yes, think very carefully about any D.I.Y. projects. Examine your own abilities with a critical eye. For instance, I once tried to complete a “Cosmos manicure” and ended up looking like I’d let a four-year-old paint my nails. Face the music: Despite what Pinterest would have you believe, some of us are just shit at art. And your wedding is probably not the time to learn that lesson. It’ll only be more expensive when you have to replace everything at the last minute.”

You have a full time job and you’ve just taken on a second full time job as a wedding planner. Do you really need a third? You shouldn’t have to be a calligrapher, interior decorator or favor maker.

One of the complaints I frequently hear from couples is how little time they have in their lives while they plan their wedding. Don’t waste what little time you have on a massive arts and crafts project!

Another idea that’s just as bad that I’ve seen making the rounds on some “wedding planning” sites is the idea that you can use an ipod and your friend (who was a “DJ” in college) to entertain your guests. A DYI DJ, so to speak.

I could spend a lot of time on why this is a bad idea, but let me just cut to the chase and write the word experience. What you are paying the DJ or the craft maker is for is their EXPERIENCE.

A good DJ has the experience to help you with your event timeline. The experienced DJ can help you both before and during the day. An experienced DJ has proper on site back up equipment. An experienced DJ is good on the microphone and knows when and how to make the necessary announcements. An experienced DJ knows when it’s time to switch gears (musically speaking) in order to keep your guests on the dance floor.

I could go on, but I hope you get the picture. I have one suggestion to sum up this post, take just a little bit of the time you were going to throw away on some massive arts and crafts project and invest it researching good Pittsburgh wedding DJs!
