• Pittsburgh wedding DJ Armstrong FarmsThis is a terrific article from Bridal Guide about wedding planning myths. I highly suggest reading the full article, it offers a lot of good advice.  As a Pittsburgh DJ, I want to highlight a couple of points.

Hiring your loved ones is not the same as hiring a pro vendor.

There’s nothing wrong with getting crowd-sourced wedding photos and the like, but make no mistake about it — you won’t get the same results as you would from someone who does this for their livelihood.

I see this current trend a lot in wedding photography. You may want to hire a college friend who is “getting started” in wedding photography. The price they are willing to charge is a super deal and they say they have a “top of the line” professional camera. The problem is that the real skill in wedding photography is getting the right pictures (in a timely fashion) and managing the photo shoot times and locations. An inexperienced wedding photographer is not going to be able to manage BOTH jobs.

The same thing is true for wedding and reception DJ service. You may have a friend with equipment. He may even have a “super large collection” of music, but does he have the experience to run your reception? Will your event flow seamlessly? Can the DJ make the proper announcements? Will the announcements be made at the correct time? These are just some of the things to think about when looking for a photographer or DJ for your wedding day.

You need to have [insert tradition here]. Otherwise, it’s not really a wedding wedding.

I often speak with couples who really don’t want to do a certain tradition. However, they often feel pressured to perform the tradition because “everybody does it”. I can tell you, as a DJ that has performed at hundreds of weddings, that not everybody does “it”, whatever “it” may be. Follow your own desires and don’t be pressured into an event that you don’t want to have at your wedding or reception.

I really can’t stress enough that this is a great article and well worth your time. Go read this article, you won’t regret it!
